While delivering a speech to crowds in Poland, President of the United States Joe Biden made a statement that many persons view as calling for regime change in Russia. President Biden closed his speech by saying “for God’s sake, this man can’t remain in power”. The White House has stated that the President was not calling for regime change.
Russia has long condemned the USA for pursuing a policy of regime change in many states friendly to Russia, including Iran, Syria, Venezuela, and Belarus. The current conflict in Ukraine followed the overthrow of Ukraine’s pro-Russia President Viktor Yanukovych in 2014.
Though the White House denies any intention to seek regime change in Russia, the statement of President Biden will certainly be used by Russian state media to generate fear among the Russian people and Russia’s allies in an effort to grow support for the war effort.
