Hours after the leader of the PNCR Aubrey Norton told a press conference that the inflation in prices must be seen as a crisis, which he said demands emergency responses- Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo has announced that the Excise Tax on Gas and Diesel is being further reduced from (10%. to 0%.)
The measure is expected to see a much-needed reduction in the cost of fuel at the pump. Norton yesterday had called on the Government to take the welfare of citizens seriously and introduce emergency relief measures to help them cope with rising inflation.
Such emergency measures he said could include: granting a market supplement to low-wage workers, expanding the school feeding program to cover 2-3 nutritious meals a day, subsidizing basic food items, such as flour, cooking oil, rice, and milk; and providing increase resources to families in the Public Assistance Program.
