AFC calls on Guyanese to stand against those seeking to divide us

In a short statement yesterday, the Alliance for Change joins with all Guyanese and the rest of the world to observe International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

The party noted that in a multi-cultural, multi-racial society such as ours here in Guyana, the importance of eliminating racial discrimination cannot be overstated. The hard work of our ancestors in forging a nation where all our peoples live in peace, where the cultures, religions and traditions are shared, must never be taken for granted, the party posited.

The theme this year is, “VOICES FOR ACTION AGAINST RACISM”, and according to the UN, it highlights “the importance of strengthening meaningful and safe public participation and representation in all areas of decision-making to prevent and combat racial discrimination; reaffirming the importance of full respect for the rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly and of protecting civic space; and recognizing the contribution of individuals and organizations that stand up against racial discrimination and the challenges they face.”

The AFC acknowledged however, that despite the advances we have made in forging ‘One nation of One People’, there are still isolated instances of individuals who would seek to divide us. This must never be allowed. The party calls on all Guyanese wherever they are, to stand up and speak out against any and every form of discrimination, reminding Guyanese that we are One People, One Nation with One Destiny.
