Reports emanating from a source at the Guyana Livestock Development Authority (GLDA) is that the institution will soon put in place licensing requirements for Livestock Farmers wishing to move chicken and other meat products across the country.
The source explained that if a Farmer/ Businessman who lives in Lethem buys baby chickens or piglets in Georgetown, he now has to apply for an inter-regional license from GLDA to transport his Livestock to Lethem.
The new licensing process requires farmers to take their livestock to GLDA in Mon Repos for inspection then the license will be issued. This will no doubt be an additional financial burden on livestock farmers.
The new law could be a logistical headache for out of town Livestock Farmers wishing to do business in Georgetown.
