GDF rank swims across the mighty Essequibo River

Captain Kaya Dover, who is the Officer in Charge of the Guyana Defence Force’s Jungle and Amphibious Training School, yesterday became the second reported person to swim across the mighty Essequibo river.

In September of 2016 overseas based Guyanese, Ashraf the ‘River Conqueror’ Ali, a 70 year old former school teacher of Canefield East Canje, Berbice, defied the odds and undertook the rigid task of swimming the Essequibo River. A task he easily accomplished in a time of 1hr 10mins.

On Sunday, Captain Dover made the 5,205 yards swim across the Essequibo River in 2 hours. In a Facebook post just after the major accomplishment Captain Dover stated, “I’m asked a lot; ‘Have you ever swam across the Essequibo River’, yesterday the job was done!  Ask no more, it took me 2 hrs.”
