Ukraine’s President, in a statement March 20, 2022, has said that Vladimir Putin’s unprovoked war of choice against Ukraine could lead to World War 3. President Zelensky stated, “I’m ready for negotiations with him. I was ready for the last two years. And I think that without negotiations, we cannot end this war,” The Ukrainian leader, now widely regarded as a hero added, “If there’s just one per cent chance for us to stop this war, I think that we need to take this chance. We need to do that. I can tell you about the result of these negotiations — in any case, we are losing people on a daily basis, innocent people on the ground,” President Zelensky continued, “Russian forces have come to exterminate us, to kill us. And we can demonstrate that the dignity of our people and our army that we are able to deal a powerful blow, we are able to strike back. But, unfortunately, our dignity is not going to preserve our lives. So, I think we have to use any format, any chance in order to have a possibility of negotiating, and the possibility of talking to Putin. But if these attempts fail, that would mean that this is a third world war.”
A political analyst affiliated with this publication has, in previous articles, echoed the opinion of international military, political, and psychological experts: Vladimir Putin cannot win this war. Russian forces are stalled and demoralised while Ukrainian forces remain resolved to fight to the end. President Zelensky, who has the means to leave the capital city Kyiv, has not done so. Instead, he is fighting alongside his army, and his national government remains intact. That fact has boosted Ukrainian morale, and has elevated Zelensky to the status of international iconic hero. Further, Ukrainian citizens have taken up arms and are fighting in defence of their country. This publication has reported, too, that some 300,000 Ukrainans and persons outside Ukraine have launched a coordinated and effective cyber-attack against a wide range of targets inside Russia, even as international sanctions have crippled Russia’s economy.
President Zelensky’s conclusion regarding the possibility of World War 3 may be supported by several facts in addition to those previously mentioned. First, according to one expert, Putin’s psychological makeup will not allow him to stop. Second, the Ukrainians will not surrender. Third, and probably most importantly, Putin is now launching missiles into western Ukraine — dangerously close to NATO territory; if one of Putin’s bombs detonates in a NATO country — whether intended or not — NATO is certain to respond militarily. That would result in the unthinkable escalation of the conflict. That would be World War 3.
