In a press statement yesterday, the Guyana Power and Light Incorporated (GPL) and the National Association of Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial Employees (NAACIE) announced the signing of an Agreement for a six percent (6%) increase in Wages and Salaries for approximately 1,100 non-management staff of GPL for the Year 2021.
The Agreement which was signed between GPL Management and NAACIE in the presence of Chief Labour Officer, Mr Dhaneshwar Deonarine at a simple signing ceremony at the Ministry of Labour Office on Brickdam, comes after nearly two years of agitation and protest by the company’s union and employees. Mr. Deonarine expressed his satisfaction with the notable progress and conclusion of negotiation between the Union and the Company.
General Secretary (ag.) of NAACIE Ms. Karen Mapp said she is satisfied with the Agreement that resulted from the negotiations and looks forward to the year 2022 wages and salaries negotiations. GPL’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Support Services, Mr. Renford Homer also noted that GPL is heartened by the amicable conclusion of negotiations between the Company and the Union, given the earlier concerns expressed by the Union and employees on the matter of wages and salaries.
