Russia has published reports claiming that 498 Russian troops have been killed with 2870 troops left injured after just 7 days of fighting. These numbers are disputed by Ukraine sources who have placed their estimates of Russian losses at over 5,000 troops killed.
Ukraine claims to have destroyed over 1,000 Russian combat vehicles while independent sources have confirmed over 500 Russian vehicles destroyed or captured so far. Actual losses are likely to be somewhere between the two estimates.

Over 14,000 lives have been lost in the Ukraine civil war started in 2014. This could possibly become the worst humanitarian event in Europe since WW2.
