PNCR promises removal of “burdensome” 28% Personal Income Tax in Republic Day message

Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) Aubrey Norton in his address to the nation on the occasion of Guyana’s 52nd Republic Anniversary has made a call for the removal of Personal Income Tax from the salary of all Guyanese.

In his message Norton noted that it is the goal of the PNCR to have a Guyana that is safe and hospitable; that gives everyone a chance at pursuing their personal ambitions and achieving the goals that they set for themselves and family.

As such, the PNCR leader believes that the cornerstone of such an effort must be the removal of the burdensome 28% Personal Income Tax. Norton made it clear that as a government in waiting and as part of the Coalition; “We will remove the burden of Personal Income Tax from our people.”

“We see this as an enduring obligation to you given the current favorable economic circumstances from Oil and Gas and I assure you that we will not stop working for your safety and security and your economic freedom and prosperity, ” Norton assured.

Presently, as it stands in Guyana an Individual is taxed 28 per cent on amounts up to $130,000 and above the first $65,000. An incremental rate of 40 per cent is charged indefinitely on taxes above the $130,000, which is higher than the Company Tax Rate which stands at 25 per cent.
