Suspect in police custody over the disappearance of three fishermen at sea

Three fishermen, Captain Harold Damon, Winston Sam and Ronald Burton, are feared dead after their boat allegedly capsized sometime Saturday morning off the Mahaica foreshore. This is one of many different stories being told to the police and the family by the lone survivor Vincent Dazzell, aka ‘Farfix’ who mysteriously managed to make his way back to shore and home safely without his fellow crew members.

The families of the missing fishermen want answers and quickly too. They allege that based on information received, the captain radioed the trawler owner sometime Saturday morning to report that the boat was taking on water. But it was not until late Saturday night that a search and rescue team was dispatched in search of the men.

They are also allegeding that checks with the Coast Guard Saturday night found that there was no report of a vessel in distress. The fishing trawler which is reportedly owned by Nobel House Seafoods was supposed to return to docks yesterday, Sunday, February 20, 2022, after a seven day mission.

The Ministry of Public Works late Sunday night announced an immediate and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the reported capsizing of a boat owned by Noble House Seafood, in coastal waters some 18 miles off Mahaicony. An independent panel was established comprising representatives of the Ministry of Public Works, MARAD, GDF Coast Guard, the GPF Marine Unit, and the Transport and Habours Department.

The Ministry has assured all concerned that every available resource of the state, to aid in this search and rescue  exercise, will be fully utilized. The private sector, including private fishing vessels are also engaged in this ongoing operation, a release stated.
