Corruption allegations against Jagdeo “credible” -Aubrey Norton

As pressure mounts for a police investigation into corruption allegations against Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo, the Leader the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR Aubrey Norton in statement has called the allegations “credible” and urges the VP to come clean.

Norton revealed that once what appeared to be credible allegations of corruption against Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo dubbed “Su-Gate” were publicly exposed, Jagdeo tried to distract the Guyanese people by throwing sand in their eyes. The second Vice President has attacked Opposition MPs and suggested that there is a US government conspiracy to undermine China’s influence in Guyana. The PNCR Leader is certain that VP Jagdeo will use the occasion of the International Energy Conference and Expo which opened today, to fraternize with world leaders, diplomats and other VIPS in a grand show of pretense that all is normal in Guyana.

All is not normal in Guyana Norton stated. “The Guyanese people remain deeply troubled by these allegations against the VP. The fact that VP Jagdeo has historically been associated with allegations of high levels of corruption in previous PPP Governments does not help his cause. The people’s trust in the integrity of Bharrat Jagdeo, which was always in question, continues to hang by a thread”, Norton told the media. The integrity of Jagdeo  could become unsalvageable should these allegations prove true. In such circumstances and given the many temptations presented by his reach and power in the government a call for his (Jagdeo) removal could be imminent, according to Norton.

“We challenge the Guyana Police Force (GPF) to investigate Bharrat Jagdeo. Such action will allow the GPF to overcome the perception and reality that efforts by law enforcement mostly target the poor and the powerless; at minimum, Mr. Su should be thoroughly questioned,” Norton argued.  ‘Guyanese are fully aware that these allegations of high corruption come at a time when large (and half-baked) infrastructure projects are being hatched as the PPP pillages the oil fund with plans to do likewise in the coming years. The PNCR recommits itself to holding the PPP accountable’, Norton pledged.
