What really happened yesterday in the National Assembly? Patterson knows

Former Minister of Public Infrastructure, current Member of Parliament (MP) David Patterson today, in a Facebook post. brought even more clarity to what happened in the National Assembly yesterday which led to the suspension of Member of Parliament Sherod Duncan.

Patterson first took aim at installed Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Nigel Dharamlall, MP, “I have seen a comment by Nigel Dharamlall, which implied that his dildo comment was in response to insults directed at him by Sherod Duncan, this is a complete lie.”

MP Patterson stated, “Last evening, in a meeting attended by more than 10 MPs, the Speaker and the Clerk of the National Assembly, he reported that his comment was because he was annoyed when a female MP waved a bag of mints at him and told him that it contained “penis enlargement pills”.

A review of the clips will show that Sherod was not even in his seat when he raised his objections to Dharamlall’s comments. The tone of the debates according to Patterson was set when the very first presenter on the government side was allowed to refer to Hon. Amanza Walton Desir, MP, as a “yard fowl”, without reprimand.

Patterson reminded that Lennox Shuman was allowed to call the Opposition MPs ‘dogs’, and when challenged he substituted “dogs” for “man’s best friend”.

Patterson agreed, that heckling and insults, are thrown by both sides of the house, most are off mic, however to allow Ministers to insult female MPs while addressing the house and it is broadcasted live without reprimand clearly demonstrates that the Speaker feels his duty is to protect the PPP Members at all costs, Patterson said.
