‘West Side’ to ‘hold strain’ as Jagdeo-Su scandal unravels: New DHB deal cancelled

The installed PPP regime has prematurely terminated its contract with China State Construction Engineering Corporation Limited (CSCEC) to build the $53.7B New Demerara River Bridge. This announcement was made by Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo during his now infamous interview with Vice News Agency’s Isobel Yeung.

The excuse being peddled by the regime is that the contract with CSCEC would not serve the best interest of the people of Guyana. During the interview of damning revelations by Vice’s journalist Yeung said to the Vice-President that based on information gathered from “Su,” CSCEC is among Chinese companies, which would have allegedly paid the Vice President through him for the facilitation of contracts in the construction and logging industries.

These are allegations which have been strongly denied by the Vice President. In 2012, Guyana was ranked the most corrupt country in the English Speaking Caribbean, by Transparency International due mainly to massive corruption in the awarding of contracts under the then PPP administration.
