No Confidence Motion against Speaker “imminent”

Members of Parliament in the Opposition benches are said to be in the process of crafting a ‘No Confidence Motion’ against the Speaker of the National Assembly Manzoor Nadir who they accuse of bias and partisanship.

Several Members of the Parliament (MPs) signaled that on numerous occasions the Speaker has found “every reason possible, logical or otherwise” to deny Opposition members’ motions a fair hearing and has allowed ministers of the installed regime less than deserving responses to questions posed to them through the Assembly by MPs on behalf of the people.

MPs, who our publication spoke with, pointed to several failings of the Speaker, the last being his actions during the Sitting of the National Assembly that precipitated the passage of the Natural Resource Fund Bill of 2021, December 29, 2021.

The members of Guyana’s highest decision making body use phrases and words like “routinely bias” and “partial” in characterizing the actions of Nadir. When asked how soon might such a No Confidence Motion be tabled, one senior MP would only say it was “imminent”.
