According to information released from the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) today, Guyana has topped the Caribbean at both the CSEC and CAPE examinations.
The Caribbean top performer at CAPE is Samuel Haynes of Buxton East Coast Demerara and a student of Queen’s College. He has been awarded for ‘Overall Outstanding Achievement’ at the 2021 CAPE exams.
Haynes is however no stranger to excellence. In 2019, the then 16 year old placed among the country’s top five performers at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) Examination with 18 Grade Ones.
In an interview with the Department of Public Information (DPI) last November, Haynes had stated his desire to pursue a Doctorate in Dentistry. “I am not applying to any US universities, but I am writing it just in case I need it and I would like to pursue a degree – a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree – so I am going to go into dental school and based on what I find enticing in dental school, I am going to select a specialty,” Haynes told DPI.
One the other hand, the CSEC top performance went to Zaynab Shaffie also from Queen’s College. She was awarded for ‘Overall Outstanding Achievement’ at the 2021 CSEC exams.
