A senior official of Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) Region 5 sub-office is currently under immense scrutiny as it has been recently revealed that the official has several contracts currently with GWI through a private entity.
This publication understands the official has so far received over $10 million in contracts to lay pipelines (distribution service mains) across the Region, namely at #30 Union village, Brittania, Trafalgar Brahn and Golden Grove Villages West Coast Berbice and Mahaicony.
Staff at the GWI location familiar with the issue are insistent that there is a clear conflict of interest, and it is illegal for a staff member to be a contractor and more so the official is a senior functionary approving his own contract payments.
