Credible reports are that a major fire at Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) headquarters on Vlissengen Road was averted earlier today with the help of staff members
Sources suggest that the fire started in the ceiling of the Finance Office. It was said members of staff leaped into action and managed to contain the fire from spreading to other parts of the building.
This publication was told that staff from the Finance Department on the second floor, where the fire originated, and staff from the Customer Service Department below were subsequently evacuated.
When four trucks from the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) eventually arrived on the scene the fire was already under control, according to staff.
